PORTRAIT ANCA

DESIGNER's insight

This portrait was created for Anca, someone I’ve known and appreciated for many years, both personally and professionally. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet steadiness she brings into any space - an inner clarity that doesn’t demand attention, but is instantly recognizable. That quality became the anchor point for the visual language I wanted to build.

Working with cut peat panels in black, grey, and white allowed me to approach the image in a way that felt both tactile and restrained. The limited palette was intentional removing distractions. The material itself brought a natural depth to the surface, reinforcing the calm presence I hoped to convey.

Anca’s way of being is thoughtful, intentional, and well-paced. This work is not only a visual interpretation of her features, but also a response to how she holds herself in the world. There’s a sense of attention and presence in her that’s subtle, yet unmistakable. The portrait became a way to translate that quality into form - quiet, structured, and open.

  • CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

I didn’t know what to expect when I ordered this piece of artwork, as I haven’t seen before this technology at work. I was surprised to see the delicate rendering of the facial features and how close it resembles the picture used as a model. The play of different color shades across the face creates a portrait that feels both lifelike and expressive. The work brings a unique touch to our home by combining an exquisite visual art with the memories of a special event it was commissioned for.

The process - from vision to detail

  • CONCEPT AND VISUALIZATION

The separation of the three colors was based on a regular photograph, which I reframed to achieve a balanced composition between elements. The vectorization was done in layers, allowing for a 3D simulation of the entire piece.

  • IN THE WORKSHOP

The painting was done separately for each layer, after which the assembly followed a natural step-by-step process toward the final form. Some elements were positioned using stencils, ensuring accurate placement of each part.

  • ON-SITE

The piece was installed in the Guina family’s living room, where—beyond its evident aesthetic function—it also plays a secondary role in improving the room’s acoustic environment. While its visual presence adds structure and calm to the space, the material itself helps reduce unwanted reverberation. The combination of form and function makes it both a visual focal point and a subtle contributor to the overall comfort of the room.
