DESIGNER's insight

Crafted with care from Konto acoustic panels, Sunset Reeds is a full-height wall installation designed to seamlessly blend form and function. Envisioned for a transformed guest room in my house, this piece serves as both an aesthetic centerpiece and a functional element, enhancing sound quality while enriching the space’s atmosphere. Inspired by the tranquil beauty of a sunset, I sought to capture soft silhouettes of reeds and warm earthy tones, creating gentle curves that evoke a peaceful, flowing rhythm. The dimensions were carefully synchronized with the existing furniture to ensure a harmonious integration into the room. This artwork offers a calming, natural presence to any modern interior, combining visual elegance with acoustic improvement.

Thank you for your creativity and for the wonderful collaboration. Your artwork makes Villa Berg even more special.

From Teen Room to Art Space

The project emerged naturally from the need to repurpose a teenager’s former room into a guest space. As part of the transformation, all the furniture was replaced, and one wall was redesigned as a decorative feature. The only original element left in place was a shelf on the north wall, which ended up setting the limits for the new visual composition.

A full-wall artwork based on a “Reeds” theme was developed, with the shelf fully integrated into the design. The result is a highly personalized room, defined by an original piece covering most of the wall. Beyond its visual presence, the installation also improves the acoustics by reducing echo and adding warmth to the space.

The process - from vision to detail

  • CONCEPT AND VISUALIZATION

The design is based on photos and hand drawn sketches with the theme of reeds, from which I selected the most meaningful elements. The composition is airy and graceful. The geometry of the space played an important role. I had a fixed wall area to work with and a mounted shelf that had to stay in its original position.

  • IN THE WORKSHOP

The design resulted in a large number of “islands”—small, isolated elements in different colors than the main reed structure. The most complex stage of the assembly process was fixing these islands precisely in their designated positions, with the goal of forming larger, compact surfaces that could be installed more easily. Identifying and placing each piece turned out to be highly time-consuming tasks.

  • ON-SITE INSTALLATION

The larger sections, previously assembled from smaller pieces in a mosaic-like process, were glued directly onto the wall. The first stage was done up to the shelf, and after the shelf was installed, the rest was added above it. The lower part of the composition is hidden behind the sofa, but when it’s turned into a bed, the entire piece becomes visible.
